When The Clouds Go Rolling By:
A tender tale of the ties that bind families together…and threaten to tear them apart. As the First World War rolls on towards its end, it takes its toll on the inhabitants of Victoria Crescent in Chester. Alice’s relief at hearing her husband, Sebastian Bennett, is alive is tempered with concern when she learns he is wounded, and all she wishes for is that he be safely returned home to herself and the children. But when that great day finally arrives, it seems nothing will ever be the same between them again and their difficulties have only just begun. As Alice comes to learn, not all scars are visible, and sometimes those you can’t see are the hardest to heal… Meanwhile, when Clara O’Toole and her grandmother, Bernie, attend a meeting held by a medium, they hope to be able to get in touch with Clara’s father, who was killed at the Front. Whilst they remain doubtful about the existence of a spirit world, the experience does inspire Bernie to trace her one surviving child – Gertie. Clara’s search for her missing aunt brings her into contact with a whole new extended family. She is over the moon to find she has a cousin, but is she ready to be drawn into the tragedies, secrets – and dangers – of the family’s past? Another heartfelt tale from the leading lady of emotive, evocative writing, featuring new faces and familiar friends. “When the Clouds Go Rolling By” to be published 27th November 2007 in hardback: the paperback of “Look For The Silver Lining” will be in the shops at the same time - just in time for Christmas. |
